How many of us have been on one of those auditions for plays with the director who just hates everything and everyone? The one that yells out every direction as if he is the drill sergeant of a new platoon of greenhorn stage actors that need to be broken in? Maybe it wasn't at one of your many auditions for plays but rather in your acting class? You showed up too late for registration to get the roly-poly, cheerful and fun loving improv professor, and got regulated into the method acting class with Sr. Lawrence Attila The Hun, the school's most notorious snapper and rumored hard-drinking closet alcoholic.
Pray that you don't face this man at any auditions, for plays or anything else, he is very, very angry. However, you do need to be prepared to face such a character if you arte planning to pursue a career in acting or any kind of performance art. If you can't face this man, you will have a hard time in auditions for plays because somewhere, out there, this man, or a women, or someone just like them, does exist, and you can't go to pieces when they start screaming about being prepared to do cold readings and following stage direction.
Hopefully, your experiences at most auditions for plays will not be so difficult and you will sail your merry way right in to your next performance in a Broadway play without a hitch. However, do remember that you can't be a slouch going into any auditions, let alone auditions for plays, even if the director is one step away from a stint from being institutionalized for his own protection.
